Are You Part of The Body Positive Movement?

We all come from a mixture of different backgrounds. As a result, we individually have features that make us unique. In 1996, an organization called The Body Positive Organization was created with a focus of building self-esteem through improving one’s self-image targeting all body shapes and sizes.  This movement aims to inspire youth and adults to value their health, unique beauty, and identity so that they can use their vital resources of time, energy, and intellect to make positive changes in their lives and the world.

Many fashion brands have joined the conversation, launching body positive campaigns along with clothing lines. Celebrities have partnered with these campaigns as brand ambassadors to help get the messages across. In the photo below model, actress and activist, Cara Delevingne promote's Puma's "do you" message. Cara has dyspraxia, she admits to her own struggles with depression, anxiety and self-hatred in her early teens.

The skin and hair brand Dove has launched several body positive campaigns such as "my body my say", "choose beautiful", "real beauty pledge" all challenging what media portrays as beautiful. Dove's self-esteem project is a mission to help the next generation of women realize their full potential. Pointing out that 6 out of 10 girls have anxiety so severe in regards to the way they look that they don’t participate in important activities such as sports, school, or even going to the doctor.

Campaigns like these are important to help to emphasize the importance of The Body Positive Movement that can help change the unhealthy traditional standards of beauty that exists today!
